Another initiative has been registered in Parliament by Georgian Dream, according to which the Police Academy will be transformed into a higher education institution.
The Police Academy will also undergo a name change.
Students will be admitted to the institution through the Unified National Examinations.
According to the draft law, students’ social guarantees are defined.
“Notably, upon enrollment in the Police Academy’s higher education program, a student will be granted a junior special rank Private. Upon completion of the program, the graduate will receive a mid-level special rank Lieutenant.”
Under the draft law, the Police Academy will have the authority to sign a contract with a student, stipulating the student’s obligation to work within the Ministry’s system for a certain period after graduation.
“In case of failure to fulfill the obligations set forth in the contract, the student may face disciplinary and material liability in accordance with Georgian legislation.”
A new structural unit will be established within the Police Academy, consisting of 10 staff positions. The annual salary fund for these 10 positions will amount to 430,862 GEL.
According to the draft law, the date for enforcing the Academy’s new name, status, powers, and other main provisions is set for March 1, 2026.
Student admissions to the Police Academy are planned to begin in the 2027–2028 academic year, specifically from September 2027.
“A total of 44 students will be admitted, and they will not be required to pay tuition fees.”
The initiator of the draft law is the Georgian Dream government. The bill was registered on November 19 of this year.
