A train loaded with Azerbaijani gasoline sent from Azerbaijan to Armenia via Georgian territory has arrived at the Ayrum railway station in Armenia. The shipment consists of A-95 grade gasoline with a total weight of 1,218 tons, Armenpress reported.
This is the first train carrying petroleum products from Azerbaijan to Armenia since 1988. The train consists of 22 railcars.
According to the Armenian side, since the cargo does not fall under the Eurasian Economic Union goods category, it must undergo mandatory customs inspection.
It was reported that 11 railcars will depart from the Ayrum station toward Yerevan railway station, while the remaining 11 will head to the Karmir Blur station.
Earlier, Armenia’s Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan discussed the import of Azerbaijani gasoline to Armenia on his Facebook page, noting that this is the first trade and economic transaction between Armenia and Azerbaijan since independence.
The agreement on the purchase of gasoline was reached on November 28 this year in Gabala, during a meeting between the vice prime ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan, Mher Grigoryan and Shahin Mustafayev.
The fuel shipment was preceded by the arrival in Armenia of trains carrying Russian and Kazakh wheat via Azerbaijani territory.
