The Prime Minister of “Georgian Dream,” Irakli Kobakhidze, stated today, on November 26, during “Georgian Dream’s” address in Parliament, that private schools will have the option to keep 12th grade, while public schools will switch to an 11-year education system.
“The content of the general education program must be reviewed, and the final-year curriculum should be adapted to the requirements of the university entrance exams. And furthermore, if 12 years of study are not necessary to achieve the goals, then of course, it is better to switch to 11 years.
If someone wishes to continue studying abroad, appropriate conditions will be created for that as well. This requirement will not apply to private schools, and they will be able to maintain the 12-year educational program. As for public schools, if any student wishes to complete 12th grade in order to continue their studies abroad more easily, special classes will be created in various cities, and no artificial obstacles will be created for students,” Kobakhidze said.
According to him, the country currently faces a difficult, unfavorable situation in the education system: “The level is unsatisfactory. Therefore, we need to carry out fundamental changes in order to establish a European-level education system in our country.
We can achieve a qualitative transformation in four years,” Kobakhidze says.
