Tomorrow, 24 November, at 15:00, the Tbilisi City Court will hear the lawsuit filed by Mzia Amaglobili against Irakli Kobakhidze.
Through this lawsuit, Amaglobili’s lawyers demand that Irakli Kobakhidze publicly retract the false information he has disseminated about her.
The issue is that the Prime Minister of “Georgian Dream,” along with other high-ranking officials, has regularly spread disinformation against Mzia Amaglobili following her arrest – alleging that she “stuck a sticker on a police officer,” that she acted “under orders,” and that “foreign agents wanted to discredit the Georgian police,” among other claims.
According to the lawyers, these statements are “clearly defamatory in nature and directly violate Mzia Amaglobili’s presumption of innocence. They serve to create negative attitudes toward her within the public and, most alarmingly, encourage the public to believe in her guilt or culpability in a serious violent crime, forming a prejudiced position before an authorized court issues a verdict and before the facts are evaluated by the court.
These statements also aim to influence the judge reviewing the case and, more broadly, the judicial authority.”
The case will be heard by Tbilisi City Court Judge Davit Akobidze in courtroom #46.
On 18 November, the judges of the Kutaisi Court of Appeal Nikoloz Margvelashvili (rapporteur judge), Marina Siradze, and Nana Jokhadze upheld Mzia Amaglobili’s 2-year prison sentence.
Mzia Amaglobili had been sentenced to 2 years’ imprisonment by the Batumi City Court.
