The Georgian Dream government has not been invited to the first Enlargement Forum, which will be held in Brussels on 18 November and organized by the European Commission.
The European Commission confirmed this information to Netgazeti.
EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, will host the first-ever Enlargement Forum in Brussels on 18 November. The forum’s slogan is: “Perfecting the Union and securing our future.”
Participants include EU, national and regional leaders, civil society representatives, entrepreneurs, artists, and policy experts from EU institutions, member states, and enlargement countries.
“The interactive, inclusive, and future-oriented forum reflects broader efforts aimed at bringing enlargement closer to people and fostering a genuinely European conversation about the future of the Union.
The Enlargement Forum will serve as the Commission’s flagship initiative to turn enlargement into a shared political, social, and generational project. Enlargement is essential for advancing the EU’s strategic interests, supporting economic growth and competitiveness, strengthening energy security, and implementing reforms in governance and the rule of law. With the most ambitious enlargement agenda in more than a decade, the Commission’s 2024–2029 strategic vision calls for moving from ambition to delivery through a credible, merit-based, inclusive, and future-oriented approach that reflects European values and prepares the Union for the future,” the Commission’s press release states.
The European Commission has published the 2025 Enlargement Report, which includes the annual assessment of 10 candidate countries seeking EU membership, including Georgia.
According to the report, Georgia has been left with “nothing but the title” of candidate status.
