According to Abkhaz media, Badra Gunba [the de facto president of Abkhazia] visited the Kodori Gorge. Large-scale construction work has begun on the tunnel and the access road.
The tunnel is the only route through which entering the gorge is possible.
According to the Abkhaz side, the tunnel is currently in an emergency condition — it has not been repaired for more than 60 years. However, in 2023 Russian construction specialists were invited, and project and budget documentation for the capital repair of the tunnel and the bridge was prepared.
