Grigol Liluashvili, former head of the State Security Service, has been placed in pretrial detention.
The decision was made by Judge Arsen Kalatozishvili.
Liluashvili refused to attend the hearing, stating that 24 hours would not be enough to review the case materials, which he cited as the reason for his absence. His statement was submitted by his lawyer, Robert Grigalashvili.
At the request of the Prosecutor’s Office, the hearing was held behind closed doors. Journalists and Liluashvili’s family members were asked to leave the courtroom.
The former security chief was arrested on December 23. He is accused of accepting particularly large bribes in several criminal cases under prosecution.
