The U.S. Chargé d’Affaires in Georgia, Alan Persely, met with Lasha Khutsishvili, Minister of Finance of the “Georgian Dream” government.
According to the U.S. Embassy, the meeting was held “to discuss, among other topics, bilateral economic relations, Georgia’s economic development, U.S. sanctions against Russia, and how Georgia can support the ‘Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity’ (TRIPP).”
The Ministry of Finance stated that Khutsishvili briefed the American diplomat on the country’s economic situation and medium-term forecasts. The discussion also covered the recent visit of U.S. State Department Senior Advisor Jonathan Asconas to Georgia. Attention was drawn to the effective work of the Customs Department and cooperation between the sides in sharing Georgia’s experience in customs control. The meeting also addressed mechanisms for the effective enforcement of international sanctions in Georgia, highlighting the Customs Department’s efforts in this regard.
The parties also discussed regional transit corridors, including the TRIPP project, and the promotion of international trade, as well as Georgia’s role in these processes. They agreed on the next steps for further cooperation.
As a reminder, U.S. State Department Senior Advisor Jonathan Asconas visited Georgia last week. The stated purpose of his visit was to discuss how Georgia can support the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP). This transport route, connecting Armenia and Azerbaijan, was established as a result of the peace summit mediated by the United States on August 8.
